Iced Matcha Latte
Ingredients:
- 1 tsp matcha powder
- 2 tbsp hot water (80°C/175°F, not boiling)
- 1 cup milk (or non-dairy alternative such as almond, oat, or soy milk)
- 1-2 tsp honey or sweetener of choice (optional)
- 1 cup ice cubes
- Optional garnish: a sprinkle of matcha powder
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Matcha Base:
- In a small bowl, sift 1 tsp of matcha powder through a fine mesh sieve to remove any lumps.
- Add 2 tbsp of hot water (80°C/175°F) to the matcha powder.
- Using a bamboo whisk (or a small regular whisk), whisk the mixture in a zigzag motion until smooth and frothy.
2. Sweeten the Matcha (Optional):
- If desired, add 1-2 tsp of honey or your preferred sweetener to the matcha mixture. Whisk until the sweetener dissolves.
3. Fill the Glass:
- Fill a tall glass with 1 cup of ice cubes.
4. Add Milk:
- Pour 1 cup of cold milk (or non-dairy alternative) over the ice cubes.
5. Add the Matcha:
- Slowly pour the prepared matcha mixture over the milk. This will create a layered effect.
6. Stir and Serve:
- Serve the latte as-is for a layered look, or stir gently with a straw to mix the layers before drinking.
7. Garnish (Optional):
- Sprinkle a small pinch of matcha powder on top for a decorative touch.
Serving Tip:
Enjoy your iced matcha latte as a refreshing afternoon drink or pair it with a light snack like biscotti or cookies.
